SLAS2020 Code of Conduct

The Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening (SLAS) is an Illinois not-for-profit corporation, organized and operated exclusively for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes under §501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. SLAS’s exempt purpose is to advance laboratory science and technology through education, scientific research, and to serve as a public forum for the exchange of information related to laboratory science and technology.

SLAS seeks to provide an environment conducive to advancing its purpose and mission. Consequently, SLAS expects individuals participating in its activities to conduct themselves in a respectful and professional manner. SLAS will not tolerate conduct it determines:  is illegal;  is inconsistent with SLAS’s Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, policies, procedures, or rules; jeopardizes its tax-exempt status; violates SLAS’s contractual, statutory, or common law rights; infringes intellectual property rights of SLAS or any other entity or individual; is abusive, threatening, discriminatory, or harassing; is detrimental to SLAS’s activities; is contrary to the best interests of SLAS; or is inconsistent with or otherwise interferes with SLAS’s pursuit of its exempt purpose or mission.

Individuals who experience, witness, or otherwise become aware of any of the foregoing conduct are encouraged to contact SLAS’s Chief Operating Officer (email Brenda Dreier; +1.630.256.7527 ext. 104). If conduct poses an immediate threat to anyone, emergency services should be contacted. SLAS reserves the right to handle any complaints in a manner it deems appropriate.

This Statement on Conduct does not replace or supersede further prohibitions imposed by SLAS’s policies, procedures, rules, contracts, or applicable law, nor is it intended to limit any obligations or duties owed to the Society or third-parties. Rather, it seeks to communicate SLAS’s conduct expectations for individuals participating in its activities.
